My Background
Hi, I’m Kristy. I am a registered counsellor and psychotherapist, a partner, mother, an advocate for your wellbeing and for a better, kinder world for us and our children.
I hold a Masters degree in Counselling and offer my services in private practice both online and in-person in the Norther Rivers of NSW.
Before this, I worked as a qualified speech pathologist for over a decade. My experience working with families and young children stimulated my interest in counselling and supporting individual’s mental health and wellbeing.
With my partner and son, I live a life that is intentional, meaningful and not without its challenges. I came to this work through my own experiences with therapy and I have come to trust that both acceptance and change are possible in each of our lives.
These experiences come together in what I offer now, alongside the knowledge of what it means to be navigating the messiness and fullness of an authentic and humanly imperfect life.
I look forward to meeting you.
How I work
My practice is rooted in awareness, self-responsibility, compassion and acceptance.
I don’t possess a magic wand. My work is done collaboratively with my clients. You are the experts on your life. However, over the years I have gained knowledge and experience in helping people to resolve conflict and other issues that affect them and their families lives.
My work is grounded in an understanding of the individual and of human interaction. I have been trained - and continue training - in humanistic, systemic and attachment theories, as well as the impact of developmental trauma on relational behaviours. If you want to know more about this, I am more than happy to explain. This means I integrate ideas and concepts from all major theoretical frameworks, as well as new research in the area of neuroscience - as long as it can be helpful to my clients.
My approach always involves expanding awareness and gaining a wider perspective in helping us to make sense of things, to understand much more about ourselves and our lives and learn new ways of being. That through our challenges we may become more aware, more capable, more connected to our world and more vital.
My work is formally and professionally supervised, and as a registered Member of the Australian Counselling Association, I adhere to the ACA Ethical Guidelines.
If I feel that I am not the right counsellor for you, and that I would work outside my expertise, I will attempt to point you into the right direction.
